Game 105 - @ MIN Francisco Liriano

"Here comes the sun..."

Two things I love apply today. The Beatles song quoted above, and oh how fitting it is. Baseball is back! It has indeed been a long cold winter. What was the deal with all the snow? As fun was to walk my dog in it, especially when it got really hard... okay, I digress.

HAPPY KING FELIX OPENING DAY!!!

We got a little lucky, and due to some injuries for the Twinkies, we get to see round three of Felix Vs Liriano. Liriano has had some injury issues that have set him back, but this kid has great stuff when he's on. At one point, these were the two biggest up-and-comers in baseball.

If they were in Seattle, I'd expect a pitcher's duel. But, they open on the road, the final season of the "Homer Dome." Breaking balls, Felix. Please.

Huzzah! Winnar! Felix had some control issues early on, and had to work himself out of some jams, including a bases-loaded-no-outt situation in the 5th, where only one run scored. Overall, though, I'll take 8 innings of one run ball, even against an already weak Minnesota lineup that was missing Mauer.

Happy EARLY King Felix Day! Erik Bedard has some hip inflammation issues. Not expected to be a huge deal, but Felix will step up a day early, and put on a show for us. Lucky us!

Original Post:

Felix dominated early last year before the injury. Now, he doesn't have to face team's top flight starters. So, I expect to see him go deeper into games even when he has a little trouble, since the offense should (hopefully) score some more runs for him.

Either way, it's just awesome to be able to say Happy King Felix Day again every five days!

Updating Site

Look different? It should.

I'm currently converting the site into a blog. Since I was not using any kind of database, this means manually transferring the data. Fun! I'm starting from Game 1 and making my way to present day. Completion will be before spring training sometime soon.

New logo and such to come.

The average against him was .262 and the OPS against him was .728. His strikeout totals remained high as he fanned 176 to be amongst the top in baseball. He allowed 60 walks.

He struck out 100 in 88.0 innings, only allowing three home runs.

2004

He was promoted to San Antonio on June 30. He had a 7 inning CGSO allowing only three hits while striking out seven. Named the Mariners Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

2003
Began his professional career with Short-A Everett AquaSox. He began the season 5-0 with a 0.82 ERA in 22 innings pitched. During that time he also compiled 31 strikeouts, and only 2 earned runs. He finished the season 5th in the league with 73 strikeouts in 55IP. He was a member of the Northwest All-Star Team, and named Everett's MVP by the Mariners.

2002
Hernandez graduated from Unidad Educativa Jose Austre in July of 2002.
